History

The UCLA Concrete Canoe Team began in 1990 with the first UCLA Concrete Canoe named “P.D.S. 90” (P.D.S. is an acronym for Please Don’t Sink). Since our humble beginnings, the UCLA Concrete Canoe Team has made large improvements on our canoes by creating more lightweight, strong mixes and more competitive hull profiles. We have consistently entered canoes into every regional and the occasional national concrete canoe competition. Our most notable performance was 2016's El Fey, a speakeasy themed cane, which placed 2nd overall in the national concrete canoe competition.

In 2015, we attended nationals for the first time in 5 years with Arcturus, then built upon this performance in 2016 year with our top-two finish. In 2019, we secured a wildcard bid for nationals, returning for the first time in 3 years and placing eighth.

Below is a list of the recorded history of our UCLA Concrete Canoes.  If you have additional information you wish to add to this list, please feel free to contact us at bruins.concrete.canoe@gmail.com.
